The figures in Gerrard’s work stem from a lineage of graffiti characters, reimagined through the multicultural lens of his upbringing in Melbourne’s western suburbs. Inspired by the men he grew up around—his Maltese grandfather, his bocce club mates, and the working-class characters of the ’80s—these portraits embody experience, resilience, and an unapologetic sense of self.
